We have a feast of golf to come this afternoon. The leaderboard at The Senior Open at Sunningdale, Surrey, England, sees several of the game’s legends poised to battle it out for the former European Open trophy.
Greg Norman and Fred Funk share the lead, but they will no doubt feel the presence of golfing greats such as Tom Kite, Larry Mize and Berhard Langer, who are all within striking distance.
This is the best field ever assembled for the championship, and walking around Sunningdale yesterday, I recognized more stars of the game than I would at a regular PGA Tour event. Almost every group contained a major winner and we were treated to an abundance of the sort of shots you would expect from such experience and talent. It was great to see Tom Watson being as genial and gracious as ever. No smiles from Sir Nick Faldo however who barely acknowledged the crowd.
