I’m not a naturally conceited man, but I think I’m a bit unique having achieved success in the business world and also by being fortunate to have worked with some of the world’s top golfers and helping them to win tournaments. Over the past 14 years I have worked with 8 European Tour winners including 1 major winner, 2 Ryder Cup winners, a host of development tour winners and amateur champions, both individual and team.
Why have I been able to share success? Well, for one thing, I keep things simple so everyone understands what they need to do. I also believe it is important that I’ve known failure as well as success and I know which I prefer! I believe it’s important for everyone to understand that life is very rarely all success nor is it all failure either.
In golf many tour players are showing that the ‘big names’ cannot win every tournament and when it’s ‘your week’ you can win. In my opinion that should be a major incentive for developing talents. Unfortunately too many fall by the wayside for a variety of reasons, generally down to lack of commitment, expecting instant success and not working on the right things – and that includes neglecting the importance of your mind in golf.
I like to work with players who want to learn and improve and commit to doing so. I have found that it is much easier to achieve if you really want to do something. So I teach golfers (and who wants to improve their life) to identify what they want to achieve, face up to any obstacles to success and work hard and smart to achieve their objectives. In particular we work on mindset, goals, eliminating fear, taking control and above all taking responsibility.
People who conquer those areas can generally expect to lead a balanced lifestyle which in my opinion is a major cornerstone to success.
